Sustainability in Automotive 2023

The entire life cycle of a product, from the extraction of raw materials through production and service life to recycling, is becoming increasingly decisive. The ATZlive digital conference Sustainability in Automotive presents the current developments in the industry and discusses the next steps.

Beyond the discussion of future energy carriers, the topic of circularity gains attention. One key aspect is the extended producer responsibility and how to handle the risks involved, another is how to measure circularity. In his presentation Towards Sustainable Mobility: What happens after first life?, Dr. Hagen Wegner (FEV Consulting GmbH) will give insights and case studies for automotive industry and possible approaches and answers towards the most pressing questions.

The sustainable development and production of batteries is the declared goal of future European legislation. Using the example of a battery LCA, Martin Rothbart (AVL) shows in his presentation AVL Battery Passport - CO₂ Measurement in Battery Production how the evaluation of the CO₂ footprint of the production phase can function, methodically based on a target cost analysis. Emphasis is placed on the consideration of primary data with the aim of optimizing the battery development process and, in particular, the design guidelines for battery construction in the context of the CO₂ dimension.
